About the Dachshund

Dachshunds are bold, curious little dogs with big personalities packed into their distinctive long, low bodies. Known affectionately as 'wiener dogs' or 'sausage dogs,' they were originally bred to hunt badgers and have retained their tenacious, fearless spirit. They come in two sizes (standard and miniature) and three coat varieties (smooth, longhaired, and wirehaired). Despite their small stature, Dachshunds have surprisingly loud barks and make excellent watchdogs. They are loyal to their families, often bonding especially closely with one person, and can be wary of strangers.
